Metal-organic-framework-derived functional nanomaterials for electrochemical energy storage and conversion
Abstract: We use metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as a unique platform to synthesize nanostructured functional materials with both controlled composition and structure. Due to the atomically arranged metal ions and organic ligands, as well as the wide variety of compositions and porous structures, MOFs can serve as unique precursors for easy preparation of metal-based materials, carbonaceous materials and nanocomposites with high porosity and tunable composition/structure. It is also possible to introduce designed species during the synthesis of MOFs so that functional nanomaterials can be synthesized. In this talk, I will briefly discuss some recent progress we have made in this area. Specifically, I will mention some examples of designed synthesis of nanostructured metal oxides, sulfides, phosphides and carbides using MOF precursors. I will also mention some examples of designed synthesis of nanostructured metal oxides, chalcogenides and phosphide starting with Prussian blue analogue (PBA) nanostructures. These MOF-derived nanomaterials exhibit interesting properties in batteries and photo-/electro-catalysts.
