Research Interest

Bioinspired Tactile Perception Devices and Systems

Our research addresses the critical demand for tactile sensing in humanoid robotics by developing bioinspired electronic skins that replicate the mechanical compliance and sensory capabilities of human skin. We focus on a vertically integrated approach—from the synthesis of flexible electronic materials and the design of novel sensing architectures, to device integration and signal acquisition/processing. A central challenge we target is the long-standing trade-off between high sensing performance and mechanical softness. Our goal is to achieve intelligent tactile feedback that enables real-time recognition of grip status, as well as object physical properties during robotic manipulation.

Piezochromic Materials and Thin-Film

We are dedicated to the development of next-generation pressure-sensing thin films for high-precision mapping of interfacial pressure distribution, targeting applications in the manufacturing and assembly of high-end mechanical components. Our efforts center on multiple piezochromic mechanisms, including conformational changes in organic small molecules, structural transformations in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), pressure-induced chromic reactions, and pressure-triggered optical clearing. By leveraging these mechanisms, we aim to engineer thin-film sensors that afford high spatial resolution and accurate pressure readout, thereby enabling quantitative visualization of interfacial stress fields in advanced industrial settings.
